Remembering Vidal Sasson: Making Magic with Hair

Everyone knows him more for the line of hair care products that grace the store shelves today, but in his heyday, Vidal Sassoon was an artist, able to make magic with a pair of scissors.

Vidal Sassoon, the legendary British hairstylist who created some of this generation’s most memorable hair styles, died earlier today. He was 84.

Vidal Sassoon died Wednesday at the age of 84After training as an apprentice in a local barber shop in central London, Sassoon opened his first salon in London in 1954. It was there that he began revolutionizing what were considered modern, low maintenance hair styles that women adored, including what has become known as “the bob cut.”

His star rose in the 1980s after moving to the United States, when the Vidal Sassoon name became a franchise unto itself. Who doesn’t remember the iconic slogan, “”If you don’t look good, we don’t look good”?
